The wife of Adamawa State Governor, Hajiya Lami Fintiri, has called for collective action to tackle drug abuse and trafficking in Adamawa State, particularly among young people.

Speaking during a street-walk campaign in Yola on Wednesday, the First Lady stressed the need for urgent intervention to protect youths from substance abuse, provide rehabilitation for those battling addiction, and create employment opportunities for those who have recovered.

Hajiya Lami Fintiri, who is leading the campaign through her Fresh Air Pro-Life Empowerment Foundation, said tackling drug abuse requires more than awareness campaigns. She emphasised the importance of early intervention, family and community support, and programmes that empower young people to make informed decisions.

She also called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society organisations to address the causes of drug abuse and trafficking.

Also speaking, the Adamawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Neido Kufulto, described drug abuse and trafficking as serious threats to children’s future and societal development.

She advocated a comprehensive approach involving law enforcement, education, rehabilitation, family support, and economic empowerment for vulnerable individuals.

The campaign aims to strengthen community participation in preventing drug abuse, supporting affected individuals, and protecting young people across Adamawa State.
