Sokoto State Government has stepped up efforts to strengthen healthcare service delivery by distributing 250 bundles of white fabric to about 3,700 health professionals across seven health cadres in the state.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, said the initiative followed observations that many health workers were not wearing the approved professional uniforms. He added that it had been more than ten years since a similar support was provided to health workers in Sokoto.
Dr. Abubakar disclosed that the fabrics, amounting to 18,000 yards, were supplied to promote uniformity and professionalism among health personnel. He also called on hospital management to ensure the materials are used appropriately.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Alhaji Ibrahim Haliru Dingyadi, praised the government’s effort, noting that it reflects Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s commitment to supporting all categories of health workers. He stressed the importance of ensuring the fabrics are properly distributed to the intended beneficiaries.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chief Medical Director of Specialist Hospital Sokoto, Dr. Attahiru Isah, the Executive Director of the Hospital Services Management Board, Dr. Bello Abubakar Attahiru, and the Director-General of the Drugs and Medical Supply Management Agency, Pharmacist Umar Attahiru, expressed gratitude for the gesture. They pledged that the fabrics would be distributed in line with the directive.
The Commissioner later performed the symbolic flag-off of the distribution of the fabrics to health institutions across the state. The event was attended by senior officials including the Chief Medical Director of Maryam Abacha Hospital, directors from the Ministry of Health, and representatives of the Hospital Services Management Board and the Drugs and Medical Supply Management Agency.
