The Kaduna State Police Command has repelled an attempted bandits’ attack in Giwa Local Government Area of the state, neutralising two suspected bandits and recovering firearms.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Kaduna.

According to Hassan, on January 11 at about 9:30 a.m., the command received credible intelligence that a group of armed bandits, led by one Kachalla Sanusi Bajira, was mobilising to attack residents of Idissu Village.

He said the bandit leader had imposed an illegal levy on the community, threatening violence after residents failed to comply with the demand.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to move to the area,” Hassan said.

He added that the OC led a team of operatives, alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), to Idissu Village, Idissu Ward, along the Bayan Kogi axis of Giwa Local Government Area.

Hassan said the operatives discovered on arrival that the bandits had laid an ambush.

“On sighting the police team, the bandits opened fire, leading to a gun duel. However, the attackers were overpowered by the superior firepower of the police,” he said.

He disclosed that two bandits were neutralised during the exchange, while others escaped into the surrounding bushes.

According to him, two firearms and five rounds of live ammunition were recovered during the operation.

Hassan said the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the gallantry and professionalism of the operatives involved.

He added that the CP reassured residents of the command’s commitment to sustained, intelligence-driven operations against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
