Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has signed the N515.5 billion 2026 appropriation and finance bills into law, providing the fiscal roadmap for economic growth and infrastructure development in the state.

The budget comes amid rising demands for improved public services, job creation, and sustained investment in critical sectors across Yobe.

Governor Buni on Tuesday said the 2026 spending plan, tagged Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation, is a continuation of reforms in education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and employment.

He said the budget is aimed at improving living conditions while consolidating gains recorded by the administration over the last six years.

The Governor commended members of the Yobe State House of Assembly for their cooperation, noting that the budget provides the legal framework for implementing people-centered policies and programs.

Buni disclosed that the legislature adjusted the budget from ₦515.583 billion to ₦515.532 billion during its review.

He said the adjustment resulted in a slight reduction in capital expenditure and a marginal increase in recurrent spending.

According to the Governor, ₦291.9 billion, representing 62 percent of the budget, is allocated for capital projects, while ₦223.6 billion, or 38 percent, is earmarked for recurrent services.

Buni assured that implementation of the budget would be guided by transparency, accountability, probity, and strict adherence to due process.

He said the administration would sustain Yobe’s recognition for fiscal transparency and budget performance, citing independent assessments by the World Bank–supported SIFTAS initiative and BudgIT.

The Governor added that tighter financial controls would be introduced to reduce waste and ensure that limited resources are directed toward essential socio-economic services.

He said the offices of the secretary to the state government, ministry of budget and planning, and ministry of finance would provide policy direction to MDAs to ensure effective monitoring and delivery of the budget.

Earlier, Ciroman Buba Mashio, speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, said the legislature remains committed to a harmonious working relationship with the executive for effective governance.

He said sustained collaboration between both arms of government would ensure that the 2026 budget delivers measurable impact for the people of Yobe State.
