Zulum assigns portfolios to commissioners

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has assigned portfolios to nine newly sworn-in commissioners following their confirmation by the Borno State House of Assembly.

The governor also approved the creation of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, a move aimed at strengthening governance, supporting post-conflict recovery efforts, and driving economic growth across the state.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, the commissioners have been directed to assume duty in their respective ministries with immediate effect.

The newly assigned commissioners and their portfolios are:

  • Hon. Satumari Abdulaziz Samaila – Ministry of Inter-Governmental Affairs and Special Duties
  • Hon. Babagana Malarima – Ministry of Religious Affairs
  • Hon. Maina Yaumi – Ministry of Planning and Economic Development
  • Hon. Engr. Tijjani Alkali Goni – Ministry of Water Resources
  • Hon. Arch. Isa Garba Haladu – Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement
  • Hon. Engr. Mohammed Habib – Ministry of Environment
  • Hon. Engr. Dr. Bawu Musami – Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources
  • Hon. Ibrahim Hala Hassan – Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism
  • Hon. Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe – Ministry of Works and Housing

The establishment of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development signals the administration’s focus on long-term development planning and economic transformation. The ministry is expected to play a key role in coordinating policies designed to accelerate recovery and improve economic opportunities across Borno State.

Governor Zulum urged the commissioners to remain committed to public service and to work diligently toward implementing government policies and programmes.

He also called on them to collaborate closely with permanent secretaries, directors, and other civil servants to ensure effective service delivery and improve the welfare of residents.

The appointments come as the Zulum administration enters the final phase of its tenure, with renewed emphasis on governance, development, and the delivery of public services to the people of Borno State.
