Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has distributed official vehicles to higher institutions and other government agencies to enhance administration and improve service delivery.
The vehicles were handed over to the beneficiaries on Friday at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital.
A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the vehicles were institutional assets intended to facilitate administration, supervision, accreditation, official engagements and other legitimate responsibilities.
The beneficiaries include the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State University, Talata Mafara, and Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara.
Others are the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Gusau; Teachers Service Board; Senior Secondary School Board; Quality Assurance; Zamfara College of Arts and Science (ZACAS); and other state government institutions.
Speaking during the presentation, Lawal said the initiative would enhance the productivity of public officials by ensuring access to dependable transportation for official assignments.
He, however, cautioned that the vehicles must not be regarded as personal property.
“It is important to emphasise that these vehicles are not personal entitlements for any office holder. They remain the property of the Zamfara State Government and must be used responsibly and strictly for official purposes,” he said.
The governor said heads of the benefiting institutions would be held responsible for the custody, deployment, maintenance and documentation of the vehicles.
“As the government invests in education, we must foster a culture of maintenance and accountability. Public assets should provide value throughout their life. We must commit to higher standards of service, emphasising transparency and accountability,” he said.
Lawal said his administration would sustain the provision of infrastructure, equipment and institutional support to enhance higher education in the state.
He congratulated the beneficiaries and charged them to ensure that the vehicles were deployed in the interest of their institutions, students and the people of Zamfara State.
