The Zamfara State Government has applauded development partners for their continued support in addressing the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups across the state.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters, Hon. Salisu Musa Tsafe, gave the commendation while speaking at a one-day kick-off meeting on the Lifesaving, Empowerment and Resilience Project (LEARP), held in Abuja.

The project is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by Premiere Urgence Internationale (PUI).

In a statement signed by the Director of Information, Bashir Kabiru Ahmad, the Commissioner described the project as a milestone initiative that would significantly support displaced persons and vulnerable populations, particularly women and children.

He noted that PUI has been a consistent partner of the state, citing its role in the 2025 World Humanitarian Day commemoration, where interventions included direct support to affected persons, awareness campaigns, and a tree-planting exercise aimed at reducing disaster risks.

The Commissioner explained that Zamfara currently has thousands of IDPs drawn from about 1,008 communities across its 14 local government areas, according to the State Social Register.

He therefore appealed to the FCDO, PUI, and other stakeholders to further assist IDPs and host communities with livelihood support, empowerment programs, multipurpose cash transfers, and other interventions to cushion their hardships.

Hon. Tsafe assured that Zamfara now provides the political will and enabling environment for humanitarian partners to operate effectively under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal.
