Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved a special ceremony to honour two outstanding students, 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah and 15-year-old Rukayya Muhammad Fema, who emerged world champions in English language skills and debate, respectively.

The duo represented Nigeria at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom, defeating over 20,000 participants from 69 countries to clinch top positions.

Both students are on Yobe govt scholarships

Nafisa and Rukayya are students of the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) and are part of 890 beneficiaries of the Yobe State Government’s full scholarship programme at NTIC.

According to a statement from the Director General, Press and Media Affairs to Governor Buni, the girls’ success reflects the impact of the state’s education-focused policies.

Gov. Buni hails feat, pledges continued support

Governor Buni described the achievement as “a great honour to the state and country.”

“These are great feats that make us proud and justify the government’s investment in the education sector,”
the governor said.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring every child in the state accesses quality education, urging parents to cooperate in the process.

Rebuilding education after insurgency
Buni highlighted the ongoing efforts to restore and improve schools affected by insurgency.

He noted that the government has reconstructed destroyed schools, provided modern furniture, books, and lab equipment and employed more qualified teachers

“It is still a work in progress,” he added.

Currently, about 40,000 Yobe students are studying on government scholarships across universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria and abroad — a reflection of the administration’s large-scale investment in education.
