The United States (US) and Iran have expressed readiness to sign an agreement aimed at ending restrictions on Iranian ports and restoring access through the Strait of Hormuz.
The US and Iran have also offered differing accounts of what will follow after a signing ceremony scheduled to take place in Geneva on Friday.
Israel’s defence minister said its troops will not pull out of southern Lebanon, despite Iran’s assertion that the agreement covers an end to the conflict in the area.
Israeli forces launched strikes on Beirut hours before the agreement was announced, drawing the anger of President Donald Trump, who openly criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The report, however, states that Trump is heading to the G7 summit in France, where the agreement, which has generated widespread global reaction, is expected to be a major talking point.
According to media reports, markets have welcomed progress toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz, with oil prices dropping to their lowest level in almost three months.
