President Bola Tinubu has submitted a request to the Senate for approval of the N1.4 trillion budget for Rivers State in 2025.

This move follows the Supreme Court’s nullification of the state’s 2025 budget and the ongoing emergency rule in Rivers State, which Tinubu proclaimed in March. As a result, the National Assembly has been tasked with overseeing the state’s budgetary process.

The letter was ready to lawmakers by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The Senate has referred the budget to the Committee on Implementation of Emergency Rule in Rivers State for review and reporting.

The proposed budget aims to create 6,000 jobs and focuses on key sectors such as health, education, and agriculture, with allocations including “N324bn for infrastructure; N166bn for health; N75.6bn for education; and N31.4bn for agriculture.” The committee has been tasked with reporting back to the Senate floor as soon as possible.
