Senate committee on Army visits Operation Hadin Kai

The Senate Committee on Army, led by its chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, on Monday, July 8, 2025, paid a strategic oversight visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri.

The visit was part of the committee’s constitutional mandate to ensure accountability in the utilisation of funds appropriated to the Nigerian Army, and to assess operational activities and the welfare of troops on the frontlines.

During the visit, Senator Yar’adua reaffirmed the committee’s dedication to strengthening the Army’s capacity, stating that oversight is a vital democratic tool for transparency.

He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s commitment to national security and lauded the soldiers of Operation HADIN KAI for their sacrifices in defending the nation.

He assured the military leadership that the committee would escalate the recommendations presented during the visit to the appropriate authorities and remain committed to approving funding that enhances operational effectiveness, troop welfare, and other critical needs.

Earlier, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, welcomed the delegation and described the visit as both symbolic and deeply encouraging.

He noted that the presence of the Senate Committee was a clear demonstration of the National Assembly’s commitment to national security, and its concern for the well-being and efficiency of troops deployed in the North East.

General Abubakar emphasized that the engagement was timely, providing the Army with an opportunity to brief lawmakers on its operational posture, achievements, challenges, and pressing areas that require intervention.

He appreciated the visit and assured the committee of the continued professionalism and resilience of troops in the fight against terrorism.

The visit concluded with detailed briefings from military officials, inspection of ongoing projects within the Maimalari Military Cantonment, the signing of the visitor’s book, exchange of gifts, and a group photograph to mark the occasion.
