Governors of Nigeria’s Northwest region have agreed to deepen cooperation in tackling key regional challenges such as insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment.
The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting of the Northwest Governors Forum, held in Kaduna on Friday.
The forum brought together governors from the seven Northwestern states to strategize on collaborative solutions.
Radda calls for coordinated efforts
Forum chairman and Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, said the states are facing similar problems that demand unified responses.
“Our region is battling the same issues—rampant insecurity, poverty, and lack of infrastructure. We must work together if we want meaningful results,” he stated.
He emphasized that joint initiatives and policy alignment would help ensure that efforts are not duplicated and that progress is measurable.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, echoed the call for collaboration and pointed to the need for stronger partnerships with development agencies such as UNICEF and other global organizations.
According to him, such partnerships will accelerate improvements in education, healthcare, and youth empowerment—three key areas critical to the region’s future.
A united front for regional progress
The governors concluded the forum by pledging to coordinate their development strategies, strengthen inter-state collaboration, and promote inclusive growth across the Northwest.
They expressed confidence that the renewed cooperation will lay the groundwork for a more secure and prosperous region.
