Two hundred police constables and corporals who successfully completed an intensive combat and weapons handling programme in Kano have been encouraged to remain prepared to confront criminal elements while maintaining professionalism, restraint, and respect for human rights in the course of their duties.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, gave the advice during a ceremony marking the completion of a one-month specialised training programme conducted at the 9 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron, Hotoro, and the 52 PMF Squadron, Challawa.

Bakori said the personnel received extensive training in combat tactics, weapons handling, and modern policing ethics to enhance their ability to address emerging security threats in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

According to him, the programme included body positioning, trigger control, follow-through, and tactical manoeuvres aimed at improving operational efficiency.

While stressing the importance of professionalism, the commissioner urged the officers to maintain a balanced approach to policing.

“Be hard on crime and be soft on the people. You must be combat-ready to confront criminals, while remaining civil enough to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens,” he said.

Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Audu Sabo, Bakori also advised the officers to always obey lawful directives and remember that the uniform they wear reflects the integrity and image of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commanding Officer of the 9 PMF Squadron, Hotoro, ACP Hafeez Oyekan, said the participants underwent intensive instruction in modern weapons handling, principles of marksmanship, combat tactics, and tactical operations.

He urged the newly trained officers to handle firearms responsibly and uphold human rights while interacting with members of the public.

Similarly, the Commanding Officer of the 52 PMF Squadron, Challawa, ACP Mannir Madugu, expressed confidence in the officers’ capacity to respond effectively to emergencies, noting that the training was conducted in line with international best practices.

The event featured a ceremonial parade, tactical operation demonstrations, riot control exercises using smoke, and tactical withdrawal drills.
