The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is appealing to communities and security agencies to join hands in protecting critical electricity infrastructure across Kaduna and beyond.

Nasir Fada, the Regional General Manager of TCN in Kaduna, made this known during a sensitisation meeting held on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the company’s office in Kaduna.

The event brought together traditional leaders, youth representatives, security operatives, and other key stakeholders in the region.

Vandalism, encroachment remain key threats

Fada revealed that encroachment on transmission corridors and the growing trend of vandalism are crippling the company’s operations.

“Community engagement and collaboration are crucial in curbing vandalism and ensuring steady electricity supply,” he said.

He urged local leaders and residents to support the company’s efforts by promptly reporting any vandalism or encroachment to security agencies for immediate action.

According to the TCN boss, ongoing efforts to enhance power delivery—such as the installation of new transformers and grid expansion projects—depend on the active protection of these assets.

“We are committed to delivering improved power supply, but this cannot be realised if our infrastructure is constantly under threat from vandals and illegal structures built under transmission lines,” he stated.

TCN officials warn of health and safety dangers

Heads of departments at the meeting provided insights into the dangers posed by unauthorised buildings and human activities near transmission lines.

They highlighted how such encroachments not only hinder maintenance work but also expose residents to serious hazards, including electrocution and fires.

Participants were urged to maintain safe distances from high-voltage equipment and transmission routes to protect lives and property.

Attendees were encouraged to act as the first line of defense against damage to power infrastructure.

They were advised to report suspicious activities near transmission installations as part of a joint effort to maintain stable and safe electricity supply in Kaduna and surrounding areas.
