Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to empowering young people through sustainable job creation, skills development, and an intensified campaign against drug abuse.
He made the pledge as the world marked International Youth Day 2025.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf stressed the vital role of youths in driving the socio-economic transformation of Kano State.
He noted that his government had rolled out extensive programmes to equip them with the skills, opportunities, and support needed to excel.
He highlighted that the reopening of the state’s skills acquisition institutions in different sectors had already placed thousands of young people on the path to self-reliance.
Direct jobs and rehabilitation programmes unveiled
Governor Yusuf disclosed that direct employment opportunities had been created in critical sectors such as health, education, agriculture, and public works.
He further announced plans to reopen the Kiru Reformatory Centre as part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and reintegrate young offenders — especially those affected by drug abuse — back into society as productive citizens.
These moves, he said, align with his administration’s vision of building a drug-free Kano where the youth can contribute meaningfully to state development.
Boosting Kano’s digital innovation capacity
The Governor also outlined his administration’s progress in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), citing the establishment of the Kano State KASITDA and the successful hosting of the International Conference on Technology and Computing.
Both initiatives, he explained, were designed to position Kano as a hub for innovation and digital skills development.
“On this International Youth Day, we celebrate the resilience, creativity, and potential of our young people. My government will continue to invest in their future through job creation, education, technology, and a resolute fight against the scourge of drugs,” he affirmed.
Governor Yusuf also urged community leaders, educators, parents, the private sector, and other stakeholders to work together in creating a safe, inclusive, and prosperous environment where Kano’s youth can fully realise their dreams.
