Born in Ilorin, Kwara State, Sheikh Saliu advanced through decades of committed Islamic learning and devotion to emerge as one of the most prominent religious figures in the state.

He served as the 12th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate, a role he occupied for more than four decades following his appointment in 1983.

Throughout his extended tenure, the late Chief Imam was broadly recognised for his profound knowledge of Islamic principles, firm guidance in religious matters, and steady promotion of peace, unity, and religious tolerance among Muslims and the wider society.
