Professor Babagana Umara Zulum

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has pledged stronger security measures in the border town of Banki following renewed threats from Boko Haram insurgents.

The governor made the promise during a working visit to the town on Saturday, where he was welcomed by a large crowd of residents who have endured repeated attacks.

He praised the people for their courage and resilience, urging them not to allow fear to undermine their determination to rebuild their lives.

“I purposely came to Banki to salute your courage; your act of bravery is really encouraging,” Zulum said.

“We should not allow a few bad elements to displace this town whose businesses and economic activities have been thriving.”

The governor assured residents that the government would provide additional support to local security forces, including youth volunteers, hunters, and vigilantes, to secure the community.

“I want to assure you that the insurgents will not succeed, Insha’Allah,” he added.

“We will strengthen the security of this border town and will support our youth volunteers, hunters, and vigilantes to further fortify this area.”

As part of the state’s post-conflict recovery plan, Zulum announced the planned resettlement of three communities — Kumshe, Tarmu’a, and Bula Yobe — in Bama Local Government Area.

“Kumshe, Tarmu’a, and Bula Yobe will be resettled,” he said.

“The people deserve a dignified life, and we are committed to delivering it.”

Zulum also revealed that rehabilitation work on the Banki road had begun, with 30 trucks already deployed to repair the long-neglected route.

He urged residents, particularly young people, to take part in the ongoing voter registration exercise, describing it as vital for the future of their communities.

During his visit, the governor also addressed traders at Banki Market, encouraging them to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to sustain peace and protect their livelihoods.
