Concerned by rising economic hardship across the country, the Aredu Development and Empowerment Foundation distributed food items and clothing to persons with disabilities and vulnerable youths in Osogbo, Osun State on humanitarian outreach.
Addressing the gathering, the convener of the foundation, Mr Muritala Adebayo, noted that rising cost of living, unemployment and insecurity have made survival increasingly difficult for persons with disabilities, many of whom struggle daily with healthcare, education, mobility and basic welfare in the area.
He stated that the outreach was part of the organisation’s humanitarian efforts aimed at delivering relief and restoring hope to vulnerable members of society.
The foundation urged governments at all levels, corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to intensify support for persons with disabilities amid prevailing economic challenges in the country at national level.
According to Adebayo, over 40 beneficiaries received food supplies and clothing during the exercise designed to promote inclusion, dignity and community support in Osogbo today.
He emphasised the need for stronger partnerships and collective action to address welfare needs of persons living with disabilities and disadvantaged youths across Nigeria nationwide.
Adebayo also called on donors, volunteers and organisations to support the foundation through financial contributions, equipment donations, skills acquisition initiatives and strategic partnerships.
“We believe that supporting vulnerable people is not just charity, but a responsibility that promotes justice, inclusion and economic empowerment,” he said.
He further commended sponsors and partners, including Oguntolu Akinlana Osunmurewa, for contributing to the success of the outreach programme.
One of the beneficiaries, Adeleke Adebambo, praised the foundation for remembering persons living with disabilities during current economic difficulties situation.
He urged the government to go beyond promises by implementing policies and programmes that would create enabling environment for persons with disabilities nationwide.
Adebambo observed that many disabled persons still face neglect and limited opportunities despite ongoing advocacy efforts.
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining interventions that provide practical assistance and empowerment opportunities for persons with disabilities and youths in Nigeria and diaspora community.
“We rise by lifting others,” the foundation stated.
