Kaduna – A deadly road accident that occurred on Friday, shortly after Jere town along the Abuja–Kaduna highway, has resulted in multiple fatalities and left many others injured.

The crash, which involved several vehicles, took place near a diversion point close to Katari village—a known traffic bottleneck, particularly due to ongoing roadworks and the absence of road shoulders.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred in a narrow section of the road, where drivers were navigating a two-way diversion.

Although the exact cause of the crash has yet to be confirmed, preliminary reports suggest that reckless overtaking might have been a significant contributing factor.

“The area is a narrow section of the road with no escape shoulder. Drivers need to exercise maximum patience,” said one road user, speaking to Zagazola sources.

Road safety concerns persist despite improvements

In recent months, authorities had implemented road improvements at diversion points along the corridor, aiming to reduce frequent accidents—especially those involving articulated trucks.

Despite these efforts, observers have noted that driver impatience and poor compliance with road safety guidelines continue to be major challenges.

Emergency response efforts underway
Emergency responders were seen evacuating victims from the scene shortly after the crash.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed.

Authorities are still working to assess the full extent of the damage and provide support to the injured.

This tragic incident underscores the ongoing road safety issues on the Abuja–Kaduna highway, particularly at diversion points, where accidents have become all too common.
