Governor Bala Mohammed has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Brigadier-General Abu Ali (rtd), a former Military Administrator of Bauchi State.
The governor, speaking on behalf of his family, the state government and people of Bauchi, described the passing of the retired general as a painful loss.
General Abu Ali served as Military Administrator from September 1990 to January 1992 under General Ibrahim Babangida.
His administration was noted for key developmental achievements and a strong commitment to the welfare of Bauchi residents.
Among his legacies was the commissioning of the Bauchi Township Water Project, a landmark intervention that improved access to clean water in the state capital.
He also strengthened the Tomato Processing Company, boosting the state’s agro-industrial drive, and founded the Wikki Tourists Football Club, which later grew into one of the state’s most recognised sporting institutions.
Highlighting leadership in difficult times
General Abu Ali is remembered for his decisive leadership during the 1991 ethno-religious crisis in Tafawa Balewa and surrounding communities.
He imposed a curfew and deployed security personnel to restore order, helping to prevent further breakdown of peace.
Governor Bala Mohammed praised the late general for his humility in public service, particularly his peaceful handover to a democratically elected government in January 1992.
According to the governor, the gesture reflected the general’s respect for democratic values and good governance.
After retiring from military service, Abu Ali became the Etsu Bassa Nge in Kogi State in 2000.
As a first-class traditional ruler, he was widely respected for his wisdom, cultural stewardship and commitment to unity.
Bala Mohammed: He left a legacy of service and integrity
The governor described the late Abu Ali as a man defined by humility, integrity and dedication, noting that his life of service touched soldiers under his command, communities in Bauchi, and the Bassa Nge Kingdom.
In his condolence message, Governor Mohammed extended sympathy to the deceased’s family, especially his children, and to the people of the Bassa Nge Kingdom.
He called on Bauchi residents to pray for God’s comfort upon the family and for the peaceful repose of the late traditional ruler.
The Governor added that the memory of Brigadier-General Abu Ali (rtd) will continue to inspire courage, compassion and selfless leadership for generations to come.
