Former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, has advised the Federal Government to take U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim of Christian genocide in Nigeria — and his threat of possible military action — very seriously.

He made the comment on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, urging the government to use all diplomatic options to stop the situation from getting worse.

“I think the Federal Government should take Donald Trump seriously. I’m calling on the Nigerian government to explore all diplomatic channels,” Ejiofor said.

Trump accuses Nigeria of allowing killings

Last week, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform accusing Nigeria of letting Christians be killed in large numbers. He also threatened to stop U.S. aid and possibly take military action.

The U.S. government followed this by naming Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) for allegedly violating religious freedom.

Trump wrote that if Nigeria continued to allow the killings, the U.S. would “stop all aid” and might even go into the country “guns-a-blazing,” saying he had told the Department of War to prepare for “possible action.”

Ejiofor says Nigeria must act fast

Although the Nigerian government has denied any genocide and said it protects religious freedom, Ejiofor warned that Trump’s words should not be taken lightly.

“It is a very serious matter when you talk of Donald Trump. He says what he wants to do, and he will go ahead to do it. So, it is not something to overlook. It is a threat,” he said.

Ejiofor added that while Nigeria must handle its own security problems, it should move quickly to prevent a diplomatic crisis that could harm its international standing or lead to conflict.

He concluded that Nigeria must take a proactive approach.
