The Yobe State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a habitual criminal gang in Damaturu while two others remain at large.
According to the command, the suspects were apprehended on Sunday,following a distress call received around 8:50 a.m. at the ‘A’ Division Police Headquarters in Damaturu.
The report indicated that at about 7:30 a.m., four unidentified persons were seen in the Pompomari area conveying a white bull in a tricycle, commonly known as Jega, with registration number YAROTA 3517 DRT.
A team of detectives swiftly mobilized to the scene and arrested the suspects, identified as 54-year-old Mallam Adamu Usman of Alimarami Extension; 20-year-old Babayo Umar of Nayinawa Ward; 35-year-old Garba Shaibu of Nayinawa Ward; and 54-year-old Babayo Ali of Nayinawa Ward.
Police investigations revealed that Mallam Adamu Usman confessed to buying the bull from two men identified only as Buba and Halilu, who are currently on the run. He admitted knowing the bull was stolen, based on evidence available to investigators.
The police have since recovered the stolen bull and the tricycle used in transporting it, both of which have been impounded as exhibits.
Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ado commended the operatives for their swift response and charged officers to remain vigilant, proactive, and community-focused in combating emerging crimes across the state.
He also urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information that can aid in tracking criminal elements and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
Police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed that investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the two fleeing suspects.
