The Federal Government and Kaduna State Government have resolved to strengthen collaboration in revitalizing the livestock sector.
This followed a meeting between the Minister of Livestock Development, Hon. Mukhtar Idi Maiha, and the Kaduna State Commissioner of Agriculture, Murtala Dabo, held in Kaduna on Tuesday.
Discussions at the meeting focused on positioning Kaduna and Nigeria as hubs for dairy and livestock production, with emphasis on reducing dairy import dependence, modernizing abattoirs, establishing ranches, and creating opportunities for youth engagement.
Other priority areas included advancing research, developing pastures, ensuring effective disease control, and opening access to international markets for Nigerian livestock products.
Both parties agreed on immediate next steps and expressed commitment to driving sustainable growth in the sector to ensure long-term benefits for farmers, investors, and consumers.
Present at the meeting were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment and Promotion, Malam Sabiu Sani; Managing Director of Kaduna Ranch Development Company Ltd, Ibrahim Yusuf; Dr. Ishak Bello; the Director General, KADLRA; and the Director of Veterinary Services.
