Security operatives in Kaduna have intercepted a man allegedly involved in vote-buying, recovering over N25.9 million in cash suspected to be set aside to influence Saturday’s bye-elections in the state.

“The suspect, Shehu Aliyu Patangi, was apprehended around 3:30am on Saturday in a popular hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis by operatives of the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), working in collaboration with other security agencies.”

Spokesman of the Kaduna Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, in a statement on Saturday, said a total of ₦25,963,000 was recovered from the suspect, believed to be earmarked for inducing voters in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency election.

He added that Patangi confessed during interrogation that the money was intended for bribing eligible voters and pleaded for leniency.

Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the strong collaboration among security agencies, emphasizing that anyone attempting to disrupt the electoral process would be dealt with decisively, regardless of their political standing.

He further assured that adequate security measures had been put in place across identified flashpoints to ensure the elections are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.

The police also encouraged citizens to come out and vote without fear or intimidation, reaffirming the commitment of security agencies to safeguard lives, property, and the integrity of the electoral process before, during, and after the polls.
