Kano State Government has approved the sum of N89,710,080.00 for the purchase of four dialysis machines for the Abubakar I Am Urology Centre as part of efforts to improve the medical capacity of the state-run facility.

In a related move, the government also approved N165,637,550.00 for the procurement of dental equipment and materials aimed at strengthening basic healthcare services (Phase II) across the state.

The approvals formed part of decisions reached by the executive during the 38th State Executive Council Meeting held on Sunday at the Government House.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, said the approvals in the health sector reflect Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to improving healthcare services in the state.

Waiya noted that the council also granted several approvals affecting other sectors such as infrastructure, rural and community development, and the environment, among others.

On infrastructure development, the commissioner disclosed that the council approved the general renovation and completion of projects at the Kano State Fire Service Headquarters in Kofar Nassarawa at a total cost of N241,302,554.21.

He added that N122,077,885.53 was approved for additional works on the ongoing renovation of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital located at Kofar Kudu near the Emir’s Palace, while N119,952,625.22 was approved for the maintenance of Rimin Auzinawa Road in Ungogo Local Government Area.

“The construction of Ladanai Road Network also received approval with the sum of N184,350,183.48. In addition, N13,200,000,000.00 was approved for the implementation of the 2026 Constituency Projects across the state.

“Council equally approved N483,608,773.80 for additional works on the ongoing renovation of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy. The council also approved N178,101,108.44 for the construction of a wall fence, security room and installation of solar street lights at the historic Dala Hill,” Waiya added.

The commissioner also revealed that approvals given to the Ministry of Rural and Community Development include N120,083,280.31 for the construction of a four-kilometre road featuring two-coat surface dressing, culverts and drainage connecting Masku–Andawa–Yafata in Gezawa Local Government Area.

According to him, the council further approved N1,068,848,712.16 for the construction of feeder roads in Bichi, Dambatta, Garko and Takai Local Government Areas. He also confirmed the approval of N368,229,186 for building a four-kilometre two-coat surface dressing road with two cross culverts from Tumbau to Musku in Gezawa Local Government Area.

Regarding policy decisions, Waiya said the council approved the award of contract for the development of AKK Industrial Parks as well as the repair of all vehicles and buses under the Girl Child Initiative to ensure their effective operation across the metropolitan area, to be handled by the Ministry of Transportation.

He added that the council also approved the implementation of a mass vaccination programme for sheep and goats across the 44 Local Government Areas to curb the spread of contagious livestock diseases.

“Additionally, the council approved the amendment of the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board Law, 2014, and directed that it be transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative action.

“Council also approved the Kano State Electricity Bill 2026 and directed that it be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for passage into law. Furthermore, the council approved the allocation of residential plots to each of the 750 households affected by the ongoing 330KVA transmission line project across multiple locations in the state.

“Council equally approved the extension of water supply from the Challawa main pipeline to Zawaciki Gabas within Greater Kano in Kumbotso Local Government Area. The Council also approved the implementation of harmonised operational guidelines for the reform and review of the Kano State Qualifying Examination,” Waiya confirmed.
