Acting Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill and an amended 2000 Local Government Law into law.

The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday at the council chamber of the Acting Governor’s office in Maiduguri.

Both bills were previously passed by the Borno State House of Assembly after careful deliberation.

Kadafur acknowledged the assembly’s work and noted the need to navigate current economic realities and fiscal pressures.

He commended Speaker Abdulkarim Lawan and members for their timely consideration, transparency, and attention to detail.

The acting governor described the budget as a roadmap for 2026 aimed at promoting economic growth, improving public services, and addressing community needs.

He pledged that the government would implement the budget prudently and with accountability.

Speaker Abdulkarim Lawan outlined key changes made to the initial budget of N890,331,686,000, presented by Governor Babagana Zulum on December 29, 2025.

The revised budget totals N892,448,411,000, reflecting an increase of N2,374,625,000.

The additional funds were directed to critical sectors, highlighting the administration’s focus on education and health.

N1,774,625,000 was allocated to the Universal Basic Education Board to support school rehabilitation, provision of learning materials, and water facilities.

N400,000,000 was set aside for the College of Nursing Sciences, Maiduguri, to construct a new lecture theatre.

200,000,000 was provided to the College of Health Technology, Maiduguri, to renovate flood-affected facilities.

Lawan said the allocations reflect the government’s priority on training health workers and addressing manpower gaps in the health sector.

He commended Acting Governor Kadafur for his leadership and praised the Ministry of Budget and Planning for its role in shaping a realistic and impactful budget.

The budget signing demonstrates the administration’s commitment to transparent governance and strategic investment in critical sectors.
