Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has declared that the state will no longer rely on allocations from the Federation Account to run its daily operations.
He made this known on Thursday while inspecting the Borno Plastic Factory located in the new Maiduguri Industrial Area.
According to the governor, the state has started exporting plastic products as part of broader efforts to industrialize Borno and boost its economy.
“I am happy to note that people from Borno State will no longer procure plastic materials from other places. You have seen that the products have been sold to our neighboring countries and other states within Nigeria.”
”We will invest more in our industries, so that in the near future, Borno State Government will no longer rely on Federation Account for its day-to-day activities,” Zulum said.
Zulum stated that the factory had already begun exporting its products internationally, with shipments of plastic items sent to Chad and the Republic of Cameroon.
He noted that the facility was initially constructed during the administration of former Governor Kashim Shettima but had been revived under his government’s recovery and development plan.
To ensure its sustainability and commercial success, the governor explained that the plant now operates under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement.
Tatabe Global Services oversees production and marketing, while the state government ensures supervision and provides an enabling business environment.
The factory manufactures plastic chairs, tables, basins, and other household items, generating hundreds of direct employment opportunities for residents.
