The Sokoto State Government has suspended the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Larai Aliyu Tambuwal.

Her suspension, endorsed by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, was communicated in a letter dated October 2, 2025, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Ibrahim Haliru Dingyadi, on behalf of the Health Commissioner.

“Dr Bilyaminu Sifawa will take over her office with immediate effect as Acting Executive Secretary of the agency,” the letter confirmed.

The correspondence, directed to the Special Adviser on State Primary Health Care Development Agency, also highlighted that the governor’s approval was enclosed for official reference and enforcement.

The reason behind Tambuwal’s suspension was not revealed in the document, but the decision signifies a major shift in the leadership of the state’s primary health care system.

The agency holds a vital mandate in enhancing health services, particularly in rural areas, and guaranteeing residents of Sokoto access to standard medical care.

As reported by The Punch, some analysts believe the leadership change could significantly influence ongoing primary health care programs in the state.
