Gov Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State

A security expert, Jonathan Onoja, has accused the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, of complicity in the worsening insecurity in the state.

Speaking on TVC News’s This Morning programme, Mr. Onoja faulted the governor’s recent remark that he knew the locations of the bandits terrorising the state.

He argued that such a statement, coming from the Chief Security Officer of the state, was an admission of failure if no concrete action followed.

“If the governor can boldly say he knows where the bandits live, yet makes no headway in addressing the insecurity, then he is complicit,” Onoja said, adding that Governor Lawal should resign if he cannot restore peace and security in Zamfara.

The analyst further recalled that a former governor had, weeks earlier, alleged that the policy from the Office of the National Security Adviser was to “feed and equip bandits.” That claim, however, was swiftly rejected and condemned by the National Security Adviser, who dismissed it as false and misleading.

Onoja stressed the need for greater accountability from leaders, warning that insecurity would continue to thrive if authorities failed to take decisive and transparent actions.
