The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, warmly welcomed a delegation from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), setting the stage for renewed collaboration between the media and security sectors.
Commandant Shafi’u Abdulmumin, hosting the NUJ executives at the NSCDC headquarters, described the visit as a “landmark engagement with an August body of pen professionals.”
He praised the vital role of journalists in national cohesion and growth.
“Journalists are not just storytellers; they are torchbearers of truth, peace, and development,” the commandant declared.
“Nigeria’s future depends on a free, responsible, and patriotic press.”
The NUJ team, led by its acting chairman in Kano, Comrade Mustapha Gambo Muhammad, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to partnership with the Corps in advancing national security narratives.
He noted that the NUJ—founded even before Nigeria’s independence—recently celebrated 70 years of dedicated service to the nation.
Comrade Mustapha lauded the NSCDC’s contribution to the state’s security framework and proposed more active engagement, including hosting some Corps events at the NUJ Council’s Conference Hall.
He then shared goodwill and a pledge to build stronger institutional ties between the NSCDC and the journalism community in Kano.
