Sunny Moniedafe, a former aspirant for the position of APC Deputy National Chairman (North), has delivered a scathing verdict on the Tinubu administration, declaring that the president has failed to meet expectations and warning that the ruling party is drifting toward internal collapse.
Appearing on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, July 29, Moniedafe criticized the internal structure of the APC and expressed concern over deepening factionalism tied to the party’s founding blocs—ANPP, CPC, and ACN.
“I think we are heading for the rocks,” he said. “And I’m sorry to say this – President Tinubu is not doing well.”
Party divided by bloc politics, lacking direction
Moniedafe said lingering influence from the founding blocs is eroding the party’s unity and credibility. He criticized the renewed demand by former ANPP members for the vice-presidential ticket in 2027, saying:
“They have a point. Everyone wants to protect their interest.”
He lamented the silence of key stakeholders who should be defending the government’s policies, noting that:
“They do not even know what to talk about.”
He added that the party lacks a structure for accountability and has failed to convene a forum of elders to serve as its conscience.
Second term ambition premature, policies harsh
Moniedafe also slammed President Tinubu’s early pursuit of a second term, saying:
“I have never heard, seen or read about someone looking for a second term from the first day he was sworn in.”
He faulted policy decisions like the removal of fuel subsidies and questioned Tinubu’s tone in selecting Vice President Kashim Shettima.
“Even if Tinubu has the right to pick who will become his vice, you don’t say it like that,” he said. “There is a crisis in the party.”
Commenting on the political crisis in Rivers State, Moniedafe warned against federal interference in state affairs:
“No elected president has the right to remove an elected governor. There is fire on the mountain.”
He hinted at a possible exit from the APC if reforms are not made.
