The Kogi State Police Command has successfully rescued 25 passengers who were being held by armed hoodlums on Obajana/Oshokoshoko Road.
The police operatives engaged the alleged kidnappers in a gun duel, forcing them to flee into the forest and abandon their victims.
Command’s spokesman William Aya, a Superintendents of Police (SP), who confirmed the incident, explained that the operatives, who were on building patrol, were attracted by sounds of sporadic gun shots coming from where the passengers were attacked.
Aya further revealed that a gun duel ensued between the police patrol team and the armed hoodlums who reportedly fled into the forest, abandoning the passengers.
SP Aya said: “On 23rd June, 2025 (yesterday), the operatives attached to Obajana Division, while on a confidence building patrol on Obajana – Oshokoshoko Road, foiled an attempted abduction of passengers who were attacked by armed hoodlums.
The Nation revealed that according to Aya, the armed hoodlums had ambushed three vehicles, specifically a J5 vehicle with registration number LSD 572 XJ traveling from Zaria to Ekiti, and two Toyota Hiace buses, one with registration number KPA 93 LG carrying 10 passengers from Abuja to Lagos, and another with registration number GWA 663 XD carrying 13 passengers also from Abuja to Lagos.
