Kaduna State University (KASU) has achieved a remarkable milestone by emerging as the only state university in Nigeria to win a ₦1bn competitive grant for commercial agriculture.
The prestigious grant, awarded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), follows a rigorous national selection process assessing universities based on innovation, institutional strength, and readiness for agricultural transformation.
KASU stood out for meeting all stringent requirements, including a strong entrepreneurial foundation in agriculture, functional facilities, and a forward-looking institutional culture that prioritizes innovation, public private collaboration, and prudent resource utilization.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, expressed deep gratitude to Almighty Allah, describing the award as a clear testimony that the far-reaching reforms in Kaduna State University are yielding tangible fruits.
“This grant is not just a win for KASU but for the entire people of Kaduna State,” Professor Musa said.
“It affirms that when universities abandon outdated traditions that stifle creativity and instead embrace reform, innovation, and accountability, excellence naturally follows.”
Faculty of Agriculture praised for visionary leadership
Professor Musa specially commended Dr. Maharazu Ibrahim Kubau, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, for his dedication and leadership in transforming the faculty into a model of modern agricultural practice.
He noted that the faculty has consciously replaced outdated systems with innovative and efficient models that deliver tangible results and drive productivity.
The Vice Chancellor extended profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, fondly known as “the People’s Governor,” for his steadfast leadership and commitment to advancing health, wellbeing, and sustainable development across the state.
The ₦1bn TETFund grant will be strategically utilized to expand KASU’s commercial agriculture ventures, establish agribusiness incubation hubs, and strengthen research industry linkages that promote food security, youth employment, and sustainable economic growth.
Kaduna State University continues to consolidate its reputation as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s higher education landscape, a university driven by reform, guided by innovation, and dedicated to national transformation.
