Kaduna State has once again emerged as Nigeria’s most transparent and accountable state, topping the 2025 Transparency and Integrity Index (TII) released by the Center for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity (CeFTPI) with support from the MacArthur Foundation.

This marks the second consecutive year Kaduna has clinched the No. 1 position, reaffirming its reputation for openness, accountability, and ethical governance.

In a statement on Thursday, Ahmed Maiyaki, Kaduna’s commissioner for information, said the state led the national ranking with a composite score of 49.08 percent, ahead of Kano (46.86 percent) and Osun (45.97 percent).

He said Kaduna also achieved the highest national score of 80 percent in the control of corruption category, reflecting the strength of its anti-graft systems and ethical governance frameworks.

“This ranking is not by chance, it is the outcome of deliberate policy choices and institutional reforms that promote openness, curb corruption, and deliver tangible results. Transparency breeds trust, and trust is the cornerstone of effective leadership,” he stated.

He said the TII assessed all 36 states across five key areas, Fiscal Transparency, Open Procurement, Human Resources, Control of Corruption, and Citizens’ Engagement.

Governor Uba Sani described the ranking as a testament to Kaduna’s reform-driven governance.

“Our administration has prioritized transparency and accountability as the foundation of sustainable development,” the Governor said.

“This recognition reaffirms that Kaduna is not only performing but doing so with integrity. We will continue to deepen reforms, strengthen citizen engagement, and ensure that every Kobo is accounted for.”

The recognition follows Kaduna’s recent 3rd-place ranking in the pcl. State Performance Index (pSPI) 2025, where it earned an Excellent 4-star rating for fiscal sustainability, industrial strength, and asset management.

The state government reiterated its commitment to building transparent institutions, deepening participatory governance, and positioning Kaduna as a model of integrity-driven leadership in Nigeria and beyond.
