The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the promotion of 471 junior staff across different levels as part of its 2025 career advancement programme.

The decision was taken at the Commission’s weekly meeting on Thursday, presided over by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

The meeting also assessed preparations for key upcoming polls, including the Anambra State Governorship Election, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, and party primaries for the Ekiti and Osun governorship contests.

INEC stated that the exercise was based on the recommendations of the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC) and carried out in line with the Commission’s Staff Conditions of Service.

Out of the 515 staff considered, 214 were elevated to Grade Level 07, 134 to Grade Level 06, 106 to Grade Level 05, and 17 to Grade Level 04.

“The promotion of junior staff concludes the first phase of the exercise. Next is the promotion of senior staff, which has also commenced in earnest,” INEC said.

The Commission emphasized that staff promotion is a routine exercise designed to improve morale and productivity within the institution.

It reiterated its commitment to a merit-driven promotion process and urged employees to recommit themselves to service delivery, especially in light of the crucial elections approaching.
