The Emir of Lafiya, His Royal Highness Hon. Justice Sidi Muhammad Bage I (Rtd.), has praised Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, declaring that he “stands tall among his peers” in Nigeria.
The commendation came on Wednesday when the Emir led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House, Maiduguri.
The Emir, who also serves as Pro Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, was at the Government House to brief the Governor on preparations for the university’s 25th combined convocation and 50th anniversary celebration.
“We want to thank God for giving you this responsibility and for giving you the strength and determination in discharging this great responsibility. It had been enormous, it will continue to be enormous, but Allah has given you good health, the ability, the wisdom and all put together,” he said.
“Today, Your Excellency, we must mention it because this is the correct position. Today, Your Excellency, you stand tall amongst the governors; you are one of the best governors in Nigeria,” the Emir added.
He further noted:
“Mr President appointed me as the Chairman of the committee on national honours to advise him on who is to be honoured by this country, and Your Excellency, we met to consider who to honour. The first thing is that there was no nomination from Borno State for the governor. There was no suggestion from any quota nominating the governor, but all of us in the committee nominated His Excellency; it was a unanimous decision of the committee that the best governor in Nigeria should be recommended for the honour.”
Governor Zulum expressed his gratitude to the Emir for the recognition and solidarity.
He assured the Emir of continued support of the activities lined up to be held in the coming days.
Zulum said the Borno State Government, will provide the needed support to ensure a smooth take-off of all the activities that will be held.
The delegation included the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Mele, two Deputy Vice Chancellors, other principal officers, and members of the university’s governing council.
