Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has declared Thursday, October 30, and Friday, October 31, 2025, as work-free days across the state.
The government said the decision was made to allow residents to fully participate in the forthcoming Local Government Elections scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2025.
A statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, noted that the work-free days would give eligible voters enough time to prepare and visit their polling units to cast their votes.
Movement restrictions and closures announced
The statement further explained that during the two days, markets, banks, financial institutions, and all public offices would remain closed to ensure maximum voter participation.
The government also announced that movement of people and vehicles would be restricted, except for those on essential duties such as health workers, security personnel, and emergency services.
According to the SSG, “Government is encouraging citizens to come out en masse and perform their civic responsibilities on Saturday, 1st November, 2025.”
Government assures of peaceful elections
Usman added that Governor Bago has instructed all security agencies in Niger State to maintain law and order throughout the election period.
He said the administration remains committed to ensuring that the polls are peaceful, transparent, and hitch-free.
“This election provides yet another opportunity for Nigerlites to elect capable leaders who will champion development and represent our collective interests at the grassroots level,” the SSG stated.
Governor Bago, according to the statement, reaffirmed that his administration will continue to prioritize democratic values and community engagement in decision-making processes across the state.
