The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has appealed to passengers for patience over the reduced train frequency on the Abuja–Kaduna route, describing the situation as “strictly temporary.”
Managing Director Dr. Kayode Opeifa said in a statement on Tuesday that the concerns raised by commuters, including those highlighted in a recent article by veteran journalist Muhammad Iskeel Abdullahi were “genuine and patriotic.”
According to him, the Abuja–Kaduna corridor remains “a flagship service,” which is why “even minimal disruptions are widely felt.”
Opeifa explained that the reduced service followed damage to Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) coaches during the August 26 incident.
He added that operations are still recovering from “two major setbacks” the March 2022 terrorist attack and a recent derailment that “took several coaches out of service.”
He assured that repairs and safety certification are ongoing, noting that “arrangements are being finalised to deploy additional coaches” and restore multiple daily trips.
“This is a phase of recovery, not a decline in commitment,” Opeifa said, adding that government support under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda remains strong.
The NRC urged passengers to remain patient, stressing that their feedback “strengthens our resolve to deliver a safe, reliable and efficient service.”
