Governor Uba Sani has launched the statewide distribution of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) aimed at tackling severe acute malnutrition among children in Kaduna State.

The event, held in Kaduna, was attended by the UNICEF Nigeria team led by the Country Representative, Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef.

Speaking at the launch, Governor Sani described the initiative as “a defining moment in our collective effort to protect the health and future of our children.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every child in Kaduna has access to adequate nutrition and healthcare, saying, “Our partnership with UNICEF remains strong. Together, we are deepening collaboration in health, nutrition, education, and WASH to safeguard the wellbeing of our people.”

UNICEF Country Representative Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef commended the state government’s leadership in addressing malnutrition and child welfare challenges.

“Kaduna is the first state in Nigeria to key into the RUTF initiative and remains the only state currently participating in the ASWA III project,” she said. “This clearly reflects Governor Uba Sani’s vision to build resilient, inclusive systems that protect the vulnerable and nurture human capital.”

The RUTF initiative, jointly implemented by the Kaduna State Government and UNICEF, is expected to significantly reduce cases of malnutrition and improve child survival rates across the state.
