The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kaduna State branch, has declared an indefinite strike effective Monday, October 27, 2025, over what it termed the state government’s persistent failure to address long-standing welfare and autonomy issues.

In a statement issued after an emergency meeting, the union said it had been “left with no option than to explore all available channels and avenues for an indefinite strike action,” citing a series of unacknowledged correspondences to the government, including letters dated September 1, 2025, and October 9, 2028.

JUSUN listed its major demands to include: implementation of financial autonomy for the judiciary as provided by the 1999 Constitution (as amended), implementation of consequential salary adjustments and payment of withheld salaries for April and May 2021, payment of nine years’ arrears of the 20% salary component (2016–date), settlement of leave and transport grants, and outfit allowances for judiciary staff.

All Activities to Be Shut Down

Declaring its position, the statement read: “An indefinite strike action shall commence from the early hours of Monday, 27th October, 2025. All activities of the Kaduna State Judiciary shall be shut down.”

Signed by the State Secretary, Nasir Haroun, the circular further directed: “All staff are to withdraw their services until further notice. All Courts and Units including the High Courts, Shari’a Courts, Customary Courts, and other judicial offices across the State are directed to ensure strict compliance.”

The industrial action is expected to affect court proceedings across the state, affecting criminal trials, civil cases, and administrative operations within the judiciary until further notice.
