Sokoto Governor, Ahmed Aliyu

The Sokoto State Government has announced plans to introduce a new law aimed at punishing people who share information or collaborate with bandits.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu made this known during a condolence visit to families affected by recent bandit attacks in Isah and Sabon Birni local government areas of the state.

“We won’t tolerate this treachery” — Governor Aliyu

He condemned informants, describing them as worse than the bandits themselves, because their betrayal helps criminals plan and execute attacks with ease.

“It’s a betrayal of the highest order,” Governor Aliyu said. “These informants are not just helping bandits — they are endangering their own communities. We will not tolerate this treachery in Sokoto State.”

The governor explained that his administration has adopted new security strategies and would not spare anyone aiding criminal gangs in any form.

“We are determined to identify and punish these informants and their accomplices. None of them will go free,” he added.

Clerics, residents urged to join the fight

Aliyu urged residents to report anyone suspected of living suspiciously or beyond their means to security agencies.

He also called on Islamic clerics to use their sermons and prayers to educate people about the dangers of banditry and aiding criminals.

The governor commended the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, Civil Defence, and local security groups for their continued efforts to keep Sokoto safe.

As part of relief measures, the state government donated ₦130m and 340 bags of rice to families of the 65 people killed in Isah Local Government Area.

The chairmen of Isah and Sabon Birni councils thanked the governor for the gesture and pledged full support for his administration’s efforts to end insecurity in the state.
