The Borno State Police Command has begun investigating the sudden and unnatural death of three children in Mafa Local Government Area.
The tragic incident occurred after three children were reported missing on September 23, 2025, by their parents, Baba Zannah Jaridama and his neighbor, Muhammad Bukar, both residents of Zannari Ali Ngoshe Area in Mafa.
The victims were identified as 3-year-old Anwar Baba Zannah, 1-year-and-5-month-old Mama Baba Zannah, and 5-year-old Ahmed Muhammad.
Despite immediate police efforts and the circulation of information to all police formations, the children’s whereabouts remained unknown.
On September 24, at about 10:30 a.m., the complainant informed officers at Kaleri Police Outpost that the bodies of the missing children were discovered inside his parked Honda Civic.
Police operatives arrived at the scene and evacuated the bodies to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where medical personnel confirmed them dead.
The corpses were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, ordered a discreet investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
He extended his condolences to the grieving families and assured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be made public once completed.
The Command urged residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with the police by providing credible and timely information to assist in the ongoing investigation.
