The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed ongoing efforts by opposition figures to form a coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing it as futile and politically opportunistic.
Speaking after a Sallah homage visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna, APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, labelled the coalition as “a doomed joint venture” by individuals he described as “strange bedfellows who cannot work together.”
“But I must tell them that history is about to repeat itself. They have a joint venture which will not work. This is because they are just some kind of particles that cannot come together,” Ganduje said.
He added, “Well, it’s a game, but we will not reveal our own intrigues and game plan. But I can tell you we are equal to the task.”
Ganduje affirmed APC’s confidence in retaining power in 2027, saying, “The progress President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made is very encouraging, and that has made our party much stronger… So, we are comfortable ahead of 2027, but we are not resting on our oars, because it is politics and we are used to the game.”
On criticisms about lopsided appointments, Ganduje responded:
“We are coming up with the true figures of the appointments to show Nigerians that Mr. President is not engaged in skewed appointments.”
During the briefing to Buhari, Ganduje also presented an update on the APC’s activities, noting a new grassroots-focused campaign strategy and the party’s efforts in Anambra and Osun States.
“Your Excellency, as you must be aware, we won governorship elections in Imo, Kogi, Edo and Ondo, but unfortunately lost in Bayelsa State,” he said.
He announced a wave of high-profile defections into the APC, including former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, ex-Labour Party governorship candidate Edwin Nkwegu, and others from PDP and NNPP.
