A Borno State High Court in Maiduguri has sentenced a 37-year-old woman, Fatima Sanda, to two years in prison for procuring a 16-year-old girl for sexual exploitation.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) secured the conviction on Monday.

NAPTIP announced in a statement posted on its official Facebook page that the court also directed Sanda to pay ₦500,000 in compensation to the victim.

The case was heard by Justice Aisha M. Ndume at Court 10 of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri.

Sanda was found guilty under Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, as amended.

The judgment underscores the legal consequences of involving minors in sexual exploitation and strengthens efforts to tackle human trafficking and safeguard vulnerable children.
