The Katsina State Government has revealed that Nura Aliyu Garwa, named as a suspected leader of a kidnapping network allegedly connected to the abduction of an eight-year-old boy within Katsina metropolis, had previously been suspended from his role as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda on Community Development.

This was contained in a statement released on Monday by the Katsina State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango, who explained that Garwa was suspended following allegations involving the diversion of empowerment items meant for residents of Batsari Local Government Area under the state’s Community Development Programme.

The government further stated that Garwa later expressed interest in contesting for a seat in the Katsina State House of Assembly to represent Batsari Local Government Area.

According to the statement, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the operations of the alleged syndicate as unfortunate, noting concern that a person with political aspirations and public standing could allegedly be associated with such accusations.

The statement added that the governor praised the Katsina State Police Command alongside other security agencies for their efforts toward tackling insecurity and maintaining ongoing operations against criminal elements across the state.

It would be recalled that the Katsina State Police Command recently paraded suspects allegedly tied to the kidnapping syndicate connected to the abduction of an eight-year-old boy at Sardauna Estate in Katsina metropolis, while the former aide to the governor was reportedly linked to the group.

The incident has continued to generate serious concern.
