The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have confirmed that personnel connected to a clash between operatives of the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Army in Bayelsa State have been identified and placed in custody.
The incident follows a viral video circulating on social media that captured an altercation between the two military services on April 10, 2026.
In a statement released on Saturday, the AFN said those directly linked to the confrontation are presently undergoing administrative processes in accordance with existing military rules and disciplinary procedures.
Military authorities also noted that further steps are being introduced to guarantee accountability, avoid a repeat of the incident, and strengthen cooperation among the services.
While describing the occurrence as regrettable, the AFN stressed that it does not represent the broader relationship between the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Army, adding that both forces continue to operate in strong collaboration and mutual respect while executing their constitutional duties.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain a unified and professional institution, bound by a common mandate to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation,” the statement read.
It reiterated the military’s dedication to professionalism, discipline, and ethical conduct, which it described as essential values within the profession of arms.
The AFN also urged members of the public to remain calm and continue supporting the Armed Forces in their mission to sustain peace, security, and stability across the country.
