A member of the House of Representatives representing Dala Federal Constituency, Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini, has formally defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The legislator announced his defection in a letter read during plenary at the House of Representatives of Nigeria. In the letter, he explained that his decision to quit the party was due to what he described as internal issues and political disagreements within the NNPP.
His decision marks another shift in the political landscape of Kano State, where party loyalties and alliances have continued to fluctuate in recent months.
Political analysts say the defection could affect party strength and alignments ahead of future political contests in the state.
Party leaders from both the NNPP and the APC are yet to issue detailed reactions regarding the development.
