Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and defected to the African Democratic Congress.
In a letter dated 11th March 2026 and addressed to his ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward of Tambuwal Local Government Area, Sokoto State, Senator Tambuwal announced his decision to withdraw from the PDP with immediate effect.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives (Nigeria) said his decision came after careful reflection and wide consultations with political allies and loyal supporters.
According to him, persistent internal crises, leadership disputes, and widening divisions within the party had made it increasingly difficult for him to maintain his membership.
He observed that the continuing disagreements within the PDP have weakened the cohesion and direction that once characterised the party.
Senator Tambuwal appreciated the PDP for the platform it gave him to serve Nigeria in several roles, including as Speaker of the House of Representatives and as Governor of Sokoto State during his second tenure in office.
Following his resignation, Senator Tambuwal has formally joined the African Democratic Congress alongside many of his associates and supporters.
He said his decision was driven by his belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.
Senator Tambuwal reaffirmed his dedication to the service of Nigeria and to the principles of democracy, justice, and national unity.
