Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has attended the 2026 National Teachers’ Summit at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
He stood in for the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum during the event.
Governor Zulum commended the Federal Government for strategic investments in education, highlighting the Student Loan Scheme, the strengthening of educational institutions, and the upward review of federal university teachers’ salaries.
He said these initiatives demonstrate a clear policy direction to revitalize the education sector.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to educational development and human capital advancement in Borno State.
The summit, convened by the Federal Ministry of Education, provided a platform to review the state of Nigeria’s education sector and strengthen policy implementation.
It also formally launched “Edu Revamp,” a program aimed at enhancing teacher capacity, promoting digital skills for 21st-century learning, and fostering collaboration to improve learning outcomes.
Twelve outstanding teachers were honored for their exemplary service to the nation.
Six teachers from the Universal Basic Education Board, one from each geopolitical zone, and six secondary school teachers received ₦25m each.
The Overall Best Teacher award went to Mr. Solanke Francis Taiwo, who received a cash prize of ₦50m.
Governor Zulum praised First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for hosting the maiden National Teachers’ Summit at the Presidential Villa.
He said the initiative demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritizing education.
He particularly applauded her advocacy for girl-child education and her support through scholarships and grants to reduce barriers for vulnerable Nigerians.
Zulum also commended the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, for their focused, reform-driven leadership.
