The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Tahir, has cautioned staff members against absenteeism, stating that any worker who fails to resume duty will not be paid salary.

Tahir issued the warning on Thursday while touring faculties and major units of the university on the second day of his official inspection.

He explained that discipline and accountability would remain core values of his leadership, adding that although staff welfare would be given attention, neglect of duty would not be accepted.

“Non-teaching staff who are not coming to work will have their salaries stopped. There will be no room for truancy in this university,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also instructed staff on study leave to forward their progress reports in line with university regulations, warning that failure to do so would attract suspension of salary.

While stressing discipline, Tahir assured staff and students of his resolve to enhance welfare and ensure a supportive teaching and learning environment.

He revealed plans to upgrade the university clinic into a full clinical complex where surgical procedures can be carried out, aimed at improving healthcare services within the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor further urged the Investment Unit to boost the university’s internally generated revenue through creative and sustainable initiatives, noting that financial stability is vital to institutional development.

Tahir also raised concerns over repeated cases of mass failure among students, calling for better teaching standards, adequate coverage of course outlines, and fair evaluation.

He encouraged academic and non-teaching staff, as well as students, to adopt discipline, responsibility, and collective commitment to achieve academic excellence and sustainable growth at the university.
